On its way
The Shroud is the easiest way into a handmade deck case. It holds a standard tarot deck upright and closed, so your cards stay square and protected whether it sits on your altar or travels in a bag.
The design is deliberately pared back. A leather strap wraps around and fastens over a collar button, and the cut edges are left raw rather than burnished. Everything is still saddle-stitched by hand with waxed thread, and my maker's mark is pressed into the back, the same as on every piece I make.
Hand-crafted from Pueblo leather from the Italian tannery Badalassi Carlo. Pueblo starts with a slightly coarse matte texture. With use, the fibres polish down into a smooth patina that darkens over time and holds the marks of how you've carried it.
This is suitable for a classic 70×120 mm deck. If you need a custom size, please get in touch.
Colour Schemes as displayed in the photos:
- Cosmic: Prugna & Nero (Black thread)
- Air: Bone (Colonial thread)
Inspiration
I wanted an affordable handmade option to complement the other ranges, so I kept the design simple and put the effort into the details instead. I've learned not every deck needs to be treated the same, and sometimes an affordable option is exactly what is asked for.

How it's made
The Shroud is cut from four pieces of leather: the body, two sides, and a strap. Once everything is cut to size, I deboss the leather to your design. The panels are held square with water-based contact adhesive, then I mark the stitch holes with a French pricking iron and saddle-stitch the whole piece by hand with waxed thread. Edges are left raw, and the collar button goes in last.
Natural Leather Characteristics
Natural Leather Characteristics
- The colour of your leather piece may differ slightly from what you see on your screen.
- Due to the dyeing process, the colour may vary slightly depending on the area of the leather.
- As full-grain leather undergoes minimal processing, natural wrinkles may remain visible and their patterns can vary from piece to piece.
- With natural leather, some blemishes are to be expected, though I always do my best to keep these to a minimum.
