The Liminal Handmade Leather Shoulder Bag

The Liminal is a hand-stitched shoulder bag in satin black, built around a recessed channel that runs the full width of the front panel. The detail is cut black on black, so it reads as a shadow line rather than a contrast, and it only shows itself when the light falls across it. The flap closes on a magnetic clasp, and the bag is unlined, so the inside is the flesh side of the same hide with nothing glued to the back of it. Raw edges, solid hardware, and an adjustable strap sized to sit at the hip.

The strap is 106cm (42"), with a drop of  52cm (20"), and is adjustable +/- 10cm (2").

Hand-crafted from Buttero leather from the Italian tannery Conceria Walpier. Buttero starts firm and close-grained, with a smooth satin surface that holds a crisp edge. With use it softens and gains depth, the black deepening as the surface picks up a low sheen from your hands.

This is a one of a kind. I have no plans to make another bag to this exact design, and it is the only one that will carry these particular proportions and this front panel. Whatever comes next will be its own piece.

Inspiration

This is the first bag I've ever hand-crafted, marking a real milestone in my leathercrafting journey. I knew it had to be satin black, as it was a visual appearance that really called to me. Not only did I know it would test my skillset, but I really wanted to show people what I was capable of when I put my mind to it.
